What’s so Amazing About Jesus? Mark 7.24-37
Berean Bible Church, August 13, 2000am
What satisfies us, what we delight in, what we are amazed by, is only temporary, then we need something more else or something more. For example, the toys our kids play with (for only a few hours on Christmas) – the delight only lasts for awhile, then it gets old.
Our delight in Jesus, our amazement of him, needs to grow, to get stronger with the passing of time. In Mark 7.37, people were overwhelmed with amazement at Jesus. Do you still wonder in amazement at Jesus; do you still think he does everything well? What is so amazing about Jesus?
I. His grace is amazing, Mark 7.24-30.
– The old rules were, don’t show grace, don’t reach out; Jesus ignored them (vs. 26). We also must show grace. But our grace is often limited. Christ’s grace is unlimited (Israel’s Messiah was not exclusive to Israel).
– In our need of grace – reach out to him, persist, ask, request, believe, vss. 26-28.
Jesus offers grace to save you from sin, change your life, offer forgiveness, meet your needs.
II. His power is amazing, Mark 7.31-35.
– His grace means he is willing (to accept you where you are, to change you into what he wants you to be, to help you in your time of need). His power means he is able.
III. His identity is amazing, Mark 7.36-37 (the Messiah).
Isaiah 35.5-6 reads, "Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy."
Mark wants the reader to see that even the Gentiles were recognizing Jesus as the Messiah, the King of the universe!
IV. (So . . .) Live in the wonder of who Jesus is and what he has done for you.
A. Make worship a daily habit. Psalm 68.19 “Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits” (NKJ).
B. Choose to worship at church. Learn to worship with new forms of music; or with older, unfamiliar forms.
C. Be thankful when you are tempted to complain. Little-picture things make us forget the big picture of what we have and who we are in Christ. “Give thanks in all circumstances,” 1 Thess 5.18.
D. Share God’s blessings with others. Psalm73.28, “But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge. I will tell of all your deeds.”
What’s so amazing about Jesus? His grace, power, and identity as the King. So live with the habit of worshiping him every day. Don’t get to used to how good Jesus Christ is. Keep being impressed by Jesus, who he is and what he has done.
